December 1st is World AIDS Day, a commemoration of those lost to the AIDS pandemic. To mark the date three years ago, the GLBT Historical Society launched an online searchable database-obit.glbthistory.org-of all the obituaries published by the Queer weekly newspaper, The Bay Area Reporter, since 1979. The site now includes 10,344 listings, each with the full text of the obituary and a guestbook where visitors can record their memories.
On this day we remember the nearly 20,000 in San Francisco who’ve died, many who lived in the Casto, and all people of the world whose lives have been cut short by this disease. Commit to fight on. Commit to staying healthy if positive. Commit to staying negative. Commit to helping to end AIDS in our lifetime. Support activists, researchers and AIDS service providers.
