We Remember-World AIDS Day 2012

December 1st is World AIDS Day, a commemoration of those lost to the AIDS pandemic. To mark the date three years ago, the GLBT Historical Society launched an online searchable database-obit.glbthistory.org-of all the obituaries published by the Queer weekly newspaper, The Bay Area Reporter, since 1979. The site now includes 10,344 listings, each with the full text of the obituary and a guestbook where visitors can record their memories.

On this day we remember the nearly 20,000 in San Francisco who’ve died, many who lived in the Casto, and all people of the world whose lives have been cut short by this disease. Commit to fight on. Commit to staying healthy if positive. Commit to staying negative. Commit to helping to end AIDS in our lifetime. Support activists, researchers and AIDS service providers.

Mark, Jim, Pride, Herman, Richard, Tommy, Jose, Steve, Bobby, William, Gary and Sam, not a day goes by when I don’t miss, love or think about you guys. You men changed my life and caring for you remains one of the most gratifying things I’ve ever done. After all these years, my heart is still broken over losing you. We promised each other we’d be old queens by now, drinking at the Twin Peaks. I have missed getting old with each of you. PEACE

Honoring all who still survive, and remembering, with so much love, my dear friend, Roy Jackson, who left this realm in 2003. Not a day passes without me thinking of you, smiling at the memories of good times, and missing you.

  3. World AIDS DAY 2012 – As the Thanksgiving Holidays come to a finish, people begin to ponder over: Xmas presents, Brandy Alexanders and then some … But some of us, we think of Xmas past, Xmas Present, Xmas Future and how we can STOP AIDS!
