Home furnishings store S16 Home opens in the Castro
We reported last year that a furniture shop was going in at the old Mark Harrington Glassware location at 286 Sanchez Street at 16th. Renovations are completed and the new shop, S16 Home, had its grand opening last week. The new home furnishings shop sells home furniture, gifts, and consignment pieces. The store looks fantastic on the outside and is well appointed with unique items at reasonable prices inside.
Each piece in S16 Home is personally discovered and selected by shop owner, Brian Allen. Brian’s aesthetic leans towards industrial, vintage, modern, rare, and unusual objects; objects like his vintage industrial shoe rack, a framed puzzle of naked ladies playing croquet, or my personal favorite, the Alessi Italian juicer that looks like something out of War of the Worlds.
Brian mentioned he is also doing “selective” consignment, “The pieces I will accept will have to be high quality, in excellent condition, and interesting. I want every piece in my shop to stand on its own.”
Brian previously held a space at the famous (at least to me) Stuff Antique Shop on Valencia and decided to open up his own space. He secured the lease last year, but had to wait for the renovations on the space to be completed before moving in. The shop is open and bright with high ceilings, and good natural lighting from the outside. Brian lives just a few blocks away in the Mission with his partner.
“I want my shop to be a source for interior designers, home stagers and anyone looking for a great piece for their home or a unique gift. I have lots of great small objects,” wrote Brian.
Check out Brian’s shop this weekend and also check out the S16 website which features most of his inventory.
