One of the best ways to ensure this is to look out for yourself and your neighbors by reporting suspicious activity to the police. Stop the Violence Signs
If you are under attack and you need help you can run inside places with this sign posted and someone will help you.As part of the Stop The Violence Campaign, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence
have handed out hundreds of these placards to Castro area merchants and residents to post in their windows.
Volunteer with Castro Community on Patrol
The Castro Community on Patrol is a volunteer safety group that works closely with the City and the SFPD to provide an additional set of “eyes and ears” for the police. They provide a visible presence through safety ambassadors who offer information on how to stay safe in the Casto and also give away free safety whistles. Click here

One of the most effective ways to reduce neighborhood crime is for neighbors to get acquainted, and to work together toward the goal of making their neighborhood safer. If you are interested in starting a Neighborhood Watch, first check this map
