In 2012, Supervisor Scott Wiener led a successful campaign to eliminate public nudity from San Francisco by passing a city-wide ban with the support of local businesses, business organizations, and “concerned community members”. Complaints originated from the Castro and specifically regarding Jane Warner Plaza and the influx of nudists who would hang out there. Unable to work with the nudists on a solution, Wiener sponsored the ban legislation which was supported by the full board in a 6-5 vote.
